Betaine HCl helps your body digest proteins foods so their digestive
components can be used to repair and rebuild the body.
NOTE:
If you have heartburn or acid reflux, do NOT take Betaine HCl until you complete a
preliminary nutrition program. If you do not display any symptoms of heartburn,
follow the directions listed below to optimize therapy for digestive health. It
is best to increase your dose gradually, because the stomach lining will slowly
re-acclimate to a normal acid level.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Always take pills during your meal, not after the meal, with plenty of bites
left to push them down into the stomach. Start by taking Week 1 dose. Increase
supplementation every week, as instructed below, until you start to display
heartburn symptoms. Once you experience acid reflux or heartburn, follow the
protocol from the previous week when you did not have any symptoms.
PLEASE NOTE: 1 tablet below
refers to one 300mg Standard Process Inc. tablet. One tablet of Metagenics
Metagest contains 650mg, so the equivalent dose of Metagest is 1/2 tablet. Other
companies make different doses. No matter which product you take, think in terms
of 300mg doses.
- Begin with 1 tablet (Standard Process Inc.) at dinner for 5-7 days.
- Then add 1 tablet at lunch for
5-7 days.
- Then add 1 tablet at breakfast
for 5-7 days.
- Next, increase the dinner dose
to 2 tablets for 5-7 days.
- Then increase the lunch dose
to 2 tablets for 5-7 days.
Continue this method of gradual increase. You may stay at the lower dose for longer if
you wish.
Here are possible improvements you may notice as you normalize your digestive juices:
- Less bloating
- Less gas
- Less burping
- Better, more complete elimination which is not loose
- Improving energy levels
- Reduction of “brain fog” & improved energy after meals
- Fewer headaches
- Less food intolerance
- Other improvements in unpleasant symptoms
You may wish to stay between 600-900 mg of Betaine HCl per dose for a month or
so and then attempt a slight increase again. If the next higher dose exceeds your optimum level of stomach acid, return to the previous dose.
What may be the signs of a higher-than-optimum dose of Betaine HCl?
- A “growling”, “rumbling” stomach
- Bowels that are unusually loose
- A feeling of heat in the stomach
- Other noticeable changes in digestion
Once you have regulated your individual dose of Betaine HCl for all the meals,
stay on this dose most of the time. The object is to support the normal
digestion of nutrients in order to rebuild the body systems including the
production of normal stomach acid.
Eventually (for some this is a matter of
years), you may want to gradually reduce the doses, or skip doses, and let the
body activate its restored function. Keep in mind that many folks have a genetic
tendency to produce less-than-optimum stomach acid and may need to supplement
continually with Betaine HCl to ensure that the nourishment from wholesome food
will be used to sustain health.
You can purchase Betaine HCl in the
form of Metagest available via our
Metagenics Online link, or
